What is an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN)?
An Electronic Laboratory Notebook a software solution designed to replace paper notebooks or paper worksheet in a laboratory environment. In its simplest form an ELN is often a free-form notebook for the capture of qualitative data, observations and comments. Click here to visit our ELN description page.
What is a Laboratory Execution System (LES)?
A Laboratory Execution System takes free-form ELNs a step further and provides enhanced data management functions through a series of templates. It is this level software which allows you to replace your paper worksheets often required to capture quantitative data. Click here to visit our LES description page.
LabsForm can be either an ELN or an LES depending on which platform is best suited to your workflow and requirements.
How does LabsForm work with a LIMS system?
ELNs are different to a LIMS system which tends to focus more on the samples themselves. LabsForm can work alongside your existing LIMS system. If you’re looking to transfer data between the two packages let us know and we can work with you on this.
Who would use LabsForm?
LabsForm can be used by any laboratory looking to streamline their workflow, improve data collection, simplify their traceability/audit trails or update their current archiving system. You do not need to work in a regulated lab to benefit from the features of LabsForms.
How does LabsForm save time in the laboratory?
Data can be added manually, or collected electronically directly from laboratory equipment. User-friendly selection lists speed up manual data entry while electronic input eliminates transcription errors. All calculations are performed automatically within the forms removing the need for manual calculation. As forms are validated before release, data checking is not required therefore freeing significant amounts of analyst time. Auditing of data is simplified as all required fields must have been completed and any out of specification information is highlighted without opening the form. All data inputs or modifications are audit trailed with electronic signatures required for all procedures. Essentially, the whole laboratory data recording process is simplified and controlled, speeding up the process while ensuring quality and data integrity.

What if I don’t want to use templates?
LabsForm is very versatile and can be used simply as a free-form electronic notebook. In this case pricing of the software package would reflect the limited functions required. However, you can upgrade the elements you use at any time should your requirements change with time.
